Do You Have 30 Seconds?
I know it’s asking a lot in today’s world full of stimuli and instant gratification but I want to invite you to simply give yourself 30 seconds to pause and breathe.
Ready? Set. Pause.
Notice the breath. Let’s slowww it down.
- Inhale for 4 seconds.
- Hold for 2 seconds.
- Exhale for 4 seconds.
- Hold for 2 seconds.
- Repeat 1x.
Now check in with the body and the mind? Notice any shifts? Chances are, simply 30 seconds of breath brought you closer to a state of awareness. Why seek awareness? When we increase awareness and consciousness we can move through life from a space of intentionality. Imagine a world full of intentional beings. Imagine Your world full of intentional BE-ing.
Like Yoga Asana (postures), Breathwork comes in many forms. Kundalini students may be guided to rapid exhales in a technique called, Breath of Fire. This style is done seated with forced exhalation and said to improve respiratory health, brain function, strengthens the abdominals and improves digestion. Nadi Shodhana Pranayama or alternate nostril breathing is done seated and offers a purification of the channels or networks of the body resulting in a calm nervous system.
Breathwork feels like a cleansing bath for my cells.
Many of our Breathwork classes are done lying down on your yoga mat with pillows and blankets. Students are then guided through various breathing techniques which may include active breath for hyper oxygenating the blood then breath holds for an out of body experience. Breathwork students report feeling a new perspective on life, an assurance that everything is going to be alright. They trust life is unfolding exactly as it is supposed to.
Breathing exercises have the ability to activate the vagus nerve, a winding cranial nerve that assists the communication between the brain and organs in turn supporting brain and heart health and balanced hormone production. A well supported vagus nerve will also calm the fight or flight response.
Breathwork or Pranayama is gaining new traction in the wellness community however breathwork is nothing new. Our ancestors in India as well as China have been passing down their OG Biohacking and neurohacking Breathwork techniques for over 5000 years. Modern day is allowing us to measure tangible shifts in the body and mind that support what our ancestors have been practicing throughout time.
