Floatation Pods
The floatation tank was invented in 1954 by John C. Lilly who was an American physician, neuropsychiatric psych, psychoanalyst, theoretical neurophysiologist, writer, and researcher into dolphin intelligence. He later began testing the effects of sensory deprivation on humans.
An isolation tank, sensory deprivation tank, float tank, float pod, float cabin, flotation tank, or sensory attenuation tank is a pitch-black, light-proof, soundproof environment heated to the same temperature as the skin. Flotation tanks are widely advertised as a form of alternative medicine. The tank is filled with 10 inches of water which contains enough dissolved Epsom salt to create a specific gravity of approximately 1.25–1.26. This environment allows an individual to float effortlessly on the surface of the water. The primary function of the isolation tank is to eliminate as many of the external senses as possible.
Until now it has been mainly used for relaxation and meditation purposes, but float tanks are now sometimes employed to relieve stress and pain for people suffering from many different conditions such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), and migraines.
Floatation therapy also helps to reduce high blood pressure or lower cortisol levels in the blood after intense workouts. The main mechanism is now believed to be an increase in the production of endorphins which help fight pain. Studies show that floatation tanks help with stress-related conditions, such as high blood pressure and migraines. Therefore, floatation is believed to be effective in pain management and for mental health disorders such as chronic pain and FMS.
Floatation therapy is becoming well-known across the world because of its ability to increase mindfulness, reduce stress and pain, stimulate creativity, and enhance learning.
At Lizard Yoga we have four float pods available. Each room is equipped with a waterfall shower, towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and ear pods. The relaxing music we play can fade out after a few minutes (or play the entire 60-minute float). A few minutes before the float is over, we gently fade the music and lights back on. We offer custom in pod music options, multi-colored LED lighting, easy open and close lid, non-slip interior flooring, state-of-the-art purification, UV and ozone filtration, convenient 2-way intercom and 93 degrees skin temperature water.
